Connecticut women call it a perfect season

Connecticut blew out Louisville in the NCAA finals to complete a perfect 39-0 season.

Per Yahoo! Sports, Tina Charles led the Huskies to a blowout 76-54 win with 25 points and 19 rebounds as Connecticut picked its sixth national title.

Not only did UConn complete the perfect season, the Huskies were the first team in college basketball history to defeat every opponent by double digits.

@pepinalex snapped a photo of the arena as the crowd was filtering in.

Sen. Kennedy throws out first pitch at Fenway

After rain and cold weather postponed Monday's home opener for the Red Sox, the 2009 season got off to a captivating start in Boston as Sen. Edward "Ted" Kennedy threw the ceremonial first pitch to newly inducted Hall of Famer Jim Rice.

Per MLB.com, Kennedy made two attempts at the throw. The first pitch fell short of the open mitt of Rice, and he happily asked for another chance that did not make it much farther.

Kennedy was diagnosed with brain cancer in May 2008 and has suffered several setbacks since his return to office, most notably his collapse at President Obama's inauguration luncheon in January, as reported by ABC News.

@soxanddawgs, a Boston sports blogger based in Connecticut, posted a video of the pre-game festivities that can be seen here.

Not only were the Boston faithful eager to cheer on Kennedy's tosses, but Twitterers across the nation were also impressed and encouraged by his efforts:

  1. Dave Levy

Nick D'arcy cut from Australian swim team for the 2009 FINA Championships

Per The Age, Australian Swimmer Nick D'arcy has been cut from the national swim team after being convicted of recklessly causing grievous bodily harm to a fellow swimmer last year. D'arcy was selected for the team on the 22nd of March this year, only to be removed from the team today following a meeting by Swimming Australia to decide whether or not he had breached one of the organisation's by-laws. The suspension comes after the Australian Olympic Committee last year stopped D'arcy from competing at the 2008 Olympics in Bei jing for a breach of the Australian Olympic Team's code of conduct due to the same incident. D'arcy has not spoken publicly yet about the decision handed down today by Swimming Australia, but his coach, Brian Stehr, said D'arcy was considering leaving the sport altogether.

There were mixed reactions from twitterers. Some were full of support for D'arcy, while others were quite happy with the decision made by Swimming Australia.

  2. Ayush Parajuli
