Houston Rockets take Game 1 from Los Angeles Lakers without McGrady

Don't tell the Houston Rockets they're the underdog.

Per SI.com, The Rockets took down the Los Angeles Lakers 100-92 in Game 1 of their best-of-seven second round series on Monday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Anyone notice Tracy McGrady isn't playing? Nope.

That's because the Rockets are Yao Ming's team and his alone. Ming had 28 points and 10 boards to lead Houston, while point guard Aaron Brooks displayed non-sophomoric experience with 19 points-- some of which were dazzling dribbling displays around Kobe Bryant for layups.

Bryant scored 32 points in the loss.

Here's what fellow Tweeters are saying:

  1. Mark Fusco
marz8 @derrich ugh. Two teams I hate. Especially the rockets but I love it when Kobe loses.
  2. Shashee Moore
shashee Off to bed with a smile on my face, #Yao and the Rockets put it on Kobe and the Lakers. Hahahaha gotta love the NBA playoffs.
  3. DJ Jenkins
DJJenkins The Rockets didn't win the game tonight, the Lakers lost it. Better get some fire going Lakers... #fb
  4. curtis susuki
curtis_susuki Rockets won game at the point. Brooks was unstoppable. Lakers will adjust...i think.

Game 2 is scheduled for Wed., May 6, at 10:30 p.m. ET in Los Angeles.

Greinke, Royals continue surprising start

The Kansas City Royals continued their surprising start with a 3-0 victory Monday night over the Chicago White Sox, improving their division-best record to 15-11.

Long a punchline across baseball, the Royals are now the talk of Twitter-town, and Kansas City fans can be excused for dreaming of bigger things to come.

  1. Rick Johnson
FBBCRev (Blue Springs, Mo.) How about those Kansas City Royals??? I guess the stadium isn't the only thing that is new!!!
  2. Kyle Blaine Parris
kyleparris can't believe the Royals are in first place. Did Brett come out of retirement or something?
  3. richard watkins
showmestater (Missouri) feels so good to have one of your local pro sports teams doing well after sucking for soo long. GO ROYALS!!!

A big reason for the Royals early-season success has been the phenomenal start of pitcher Zack Greinke. Greinke's troubles with anxiety issues have been well-documented, but with his demons under control the 25-year-old pitcher has been lights out. Through six starts, he has a 6-0 record with a sickeningly-low ERA of .40 while leading the league in strikeouts (54), innings pitched (45), complete games (3) and shutouts (2).

@JamesKLight snapped this photo from Greinke's Monday night start against the White Sox.

And across Twitter, Royals and non-Royals fans alike were quick with their praise for Greinke.

  1. Rany Jazayerli
jazayerli I'm speechless. I have been rendered incapable of speech. Do y'all realize if Coco had a better arm, Zack's scoreless streak would be at 59?
  2. Marvin Olberding
unclevermarv (Colorado Springs, Colo.) Happy to see Liriano get his first W, but am becoming more impressed all the time by Zack Greinke's start to the season. Wow.
  3. Doug Hanna
DouHan I keep seeing Zack Greinke's complete games and feeling the Royals are abusing him. Then I see he does that without breaking 100 pitches.
  4. Kirk Biglione
kirkbiglione (Pasadena, Calif.) Zack Greinke is pitching like he's living in the 1970's. Another complete game shutout.
  5. Isaac Rickert
I_R Zach Greinke is awesome. For those of you who do not know, Zach Greinke is piloting the Royals to the World Series
  6. Paul
paulk_ (Kansas City) While I'm a #Rockies fan at heart,I saw a most impressive pitching performance tonight by Zack Greinke!Could the #Royals be this years Rays?
  7. eugenephotoblog
eugenephotoblog (Atlanta, Ga.) How good is Greinke (6-0, 0.40 ERA)? More than 6,500 fans bought walk-up tickets in KC on Monday, pushing the attendance to over 20,000

Ovechkin Hat Trick Puts Capitals Up 2-0

The Washington Capitals rode Alex Ovechkin to a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, giving the Caps a 2-0 lead in the series.  (Check out the whole Washington Post game story here.)

Ovechkin and Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby each had a hat trick and met the hype that has been built around the two superstars first playoff series.

Ovechkin and Crosby admittedly dislike each other, but are seemingly making the NHL relevant again to a general sports fan.

Here's how some people in the D.C. area felt:
  1. Dylan Byrd
byrdinflight Sick Caps game tonight. Crosby's HT was all for nothing cuz D.C. knows Ovi owns!
  2. Christian Martinez
Realnemesis I can't wait until the Capitals Win the Stanley Cup.... lol.
  3. Ebong Eka
ebongeka I exchanged "24" for the Washington Capitals tonight. Great choice.
  4. DoreenKreger
DoreenKreger Rock the Red! The Capitals score another win.. Another game closer to the Stanley Cup..
  5. Andrew Kulak
andrewkulak @beckyinthesky How 'bout those Capitals?

Pittsburgh folks on the other hand...

  1. Shawn Forsyth
sforsyth01 The Penguins absolutely don't deserve to be where they are right now. Their powerplay needs rebuilt from the ground up.
  2. Patty Boyd
Dottyeyes Keep the faith on our dear Pens. Penguins can't fly, but they survive crap!
  3. Tom Bartins
thepitt Time to pack it in for the night, can't watch any more of this Penguins debacle. Fleury needs to stop being a doorman for Ovechkin's pucks.
  4. matthew zelinsky
constantplanck Everyone scored a hat trick tonight, apparently. Still no winning for the Penguins until someone else remembers to play hockey though.
  5. Michael Curtis
    curtism88 The Penguins suck....

T-minus four months to NCAA kickoff; fans excited, coaches looking at starting positions

It's May... Baseball season is in full swing, we're in the middle of the NBA and NHL playoffs, and summer is on the horizon.

But with all of this BCS talk in Congress and less than four months to go until the first game's kickoff, excitement for college football season is warming up with the weather.

Looks like universities caught some spring fever too. Per ESPN.com, several teams are seeing promise after spring game performances.

USC Coach Pete Carroll named Aaron Corp as the starting quarterback -- beating out Arkansas transfer Mitch Mustain, who got beat by freshman Matt Barkley as Corp's backup.

On the cusp of their worst season in school history last year and losing veteran Nick Sheridan to a broken leg, Michigan Coach Rich Rodriguez is looking to freshman Tate Forcier to take the snaps.

Notre Dame seems to have a running game, Jarrett Brown looks to replace record-breaking Pat White at West Virginia, Tim Tebow moves to center for the Gators, and Malcom Williams could be a big threat at receiver for Texas.

NCAA football fans have been tweeting their anticipation for the upcoming season:

  1. peter gambardella

Brett Favre to return to NFL?

What would spring be without news on the NBA playoffs, Alex Rodriquez's latest shenanigans, or Brett Favre?

According to foxsports.com, all signs are leading towards one conclusion- another return to football from Favre. There is of plenty smoke right now on this story, meaning there's fire somewhere. Probably in Mississippi where Favre has hired a personal trainer.

The Vikings did nothing over the weekend to squelch rumors of another comeback, as coach Brad Childress said the team would talk about signing the soon-to-be 40-year-old QB.

This is a milestone day on BT Sports. Two Favre posts in two days. I get the feeling it won't be our last.

Favre always musters up emotions in fans. With this story, the Tweets are decidedly negative:

  1. Sara Myszka
SaraMish I'm so sick of Brett Favre. I am seriously contemplating if he is really in love with the game, or just really in love with the spot light.

Why do we love Favre posts? Because the Tweets are buzzing from Sheboygan to St. Paul. From The canasta-playing ladies in Eau Claire to the bridge lovers in Appleton. Oh, crimeany! Just stay on the farm and shoot pheasant already, Brett!

  1. Glenn Manishin
glennm Brett Favre is no boxer. Let the comebacks stop. You were great....a long time ago. http://bit.ly/kEAXo
  2. blzrul
blzrul Did I hear a rumor Brett Favre is going to unretire again? Please Brett - go away. There's nothing sadder than someone hanging on too long.
